If you could ask God one question, what would it be?
Friday, July 3, 2009I want to know why such horrible things have to happen to poor innocent people and children. I just want to know why some people are capable of doing such evil things...
Why male pregnant seahorses? I mean great concept, but how did you manage to come up with that?!
i want dna, blood, hair, skin, fingernails, gimme gimme. proof and maybe make a fortune on craigslist.
Honestly... Why am I on earth?! its really not that great on earth lol
I would ask him.. why CHILDREN have to suffer....?? From Pedophiles, rapes, incest, human trafficking, children exploitation.. why them.. at such an early age...???
Why don't I care? Why am I the one that doesn't care when a family member dies, but when someone else does it hurts?
I would ask him if he could tell me why there is all this pain in the world.
I think I would ask God why my grandfather had to die. Why is it that good people die while the wretch of the earth live....Why should evil live while good people pass.....
I would ask him if he could just take me to heaven right now. Haha get past all this life stuff and go straight to the eternal happiness
My question would be:
"why were you so harsh on satan he was only asking you a question"
and then God would be all like:
"Did you see it! everyone saw it! you questioned me so I am going to condemn you to hell for all enternity and if any one askes why, I will say you were evil and then condemn them to hell for questioning me."
and then I would be all like:
"aaaaaahhhgggg!!! I am burning in hell, this was a really bad idea!"
I like the last question. but I guess I would ask: "What's the deal with jelly fish? None of us creatures on Earth are really fond of them. Sharks I get. But jelly fish?? That's gotta be a sin to create those things -- even for God!"
I would ask, "Why do you allow so much hate to exist in the world if you expect us to believe in the idea that you are eternally loving and caring for us?"
THis one is tough, my top 3 are »
1. What is the right question?
2. What should I be doing in life?
3. Where is the 'undo' button for life??
I would ask two questions
1) where did you come up with idea to give the oceans such a peaceful rythym?
2) where did you come up with the idea to allow these massive trees to grow close enough to one another so that it rustles the leaves when the wind comes through
Am I on the right path, to further my goals in my education and career?
(Wow, is asking a question about me too selfish?)
@sandragonfly I think that he does speak to everyone, but we aren't open to hear what He has to say.
Have you got a cigarette....erm, it's only that there seems to be a lot of smoke around whenever you appear?
Why would you send Jesus to die such an inhumane death for the likes of me??
God, can you tell me who will be the most influential people in my Life?
@Terry7 You are right. But on some levels faith comes from experiencing too. Nobody sits in a chair unless they have faith from past experiences that the chair will hold them. (of course I've had faith that a chair would hold me and I tumbled to the ground haha) I guess I wish God would give people more 'experiences' with Him so that they would believe...if that makes sense? I know he does reveal himself, though, and it's a matter of the receivers own perception whether or not they receive or recognize God's movement. Hmmm.
I like that saying...so true. Altho sometimes I feel like I'm kicking and screaming at Him. lol
My question would be: Why the different races of people. (I think I already know the answer, but that's probably just my human arrogance that lets me think that :)
@jleigh355 "God, why dont you make yourself more 'obvious' to people who doubt your existence?"
I feel that if He did make Himself more 'obvious' to nonbelievers, then there would be no need for Faith, and then, what are we without Faith? A nonbeliever.
And, boy, jleigh355, you're really whacking at my thinkin' bone today! I really liked your next post in reply to braxtonrob. It makes me think of one of my favorite sayings: "He's not taking anyone kicking and screaming"
Why do you only speak to SOME people? Why can't you speak to everyone?
i would probably ask him?
why do i have to be like my self?
that's my biggest question.
@braxtonrob I have to disagree with you on one little point. Evil does not need to exist for good to exist. After all, God is all good, at least that is how I've come to know him. We describe evil as the absence of good, and darkness as the absence of light. But light and goodness do not need darkness and evil to exist.
Lest you forget, there was no evil in the world until the angels were created and Lucifer fell.
Evil exists because of man's inhability to listen. We ate the fruit, we gained the knowledge. Simple as that.

I haven't read all of your discussion but this is a great video that explains -to me- the difference on these manners: good and evil. it is a very good video.
(sorry for putting this 2 times)

@IceCreamMan That's a beautiful question, but my guess would be that even God wouldn't make such a guarantee since your children will have their own free will to determine in their lives. But, if you set the right example for them, they're more likely to make the right choices along their paths!
@IceCreamMan thats powerful....in the Bible many people actually committed their children to God and they were blessed.
@braxtonrob I totally agree with you. I also would add that the reason God allows evil is because of freedom. If God chose to control everything, we would all be robots, controlled and manipulated by all HIS desires and not ours. We would never understand a need for God if there wasnt evil in the world. Evil is a naturally consequence of man's rebellion of God. But I dont believe God created evil, he just allowed it. God wants us to love him and need him out of our own will, not his. Nobody wants to be loved by someone because that person HAS to love us, we want to be loved because that person CHOOSES to love us.
God, why dont you make yourself more 'obvious' to people who doubt your existence?
I wouldn't ask a question, I'd ask for forgiveness. Because we fail Him, we fail as human beings. We, the human race, were not created to be waht we turned out: we cheat, we lie, we steal, we kill, we torture, we don't love our neighbor, we say His name in vain, we are jealous, we are mean, we envy, and the list goes on and on and on... We kill Your Son for nothing!! Please, forgive us!
my question is..."will i forfill my dreames...will i life long and happy?"
So, this whole existence of everything... be honest; you just winged it, didn't you?
It's cool man, I've played Sim Earth. I understand.
My question would be, "If I devoted my life to you, would you guarantee my children a long, happy and healthy life?"
@CJ117 Btw....your answer to the question "If God is so good, and all knowing and all powerful, why does he allow evil in this world?"....is feeble, short-sighted, and wrong...lol
The answer to that question is actually quite simple:
The reason there is "evil" in this world is the same reason there is "righteous" in this world.
HUMAN PERSPECTIVE.
In order for there to be 'good', there has to be 'bad'.
You can't have 'up' without 'down', or 'left' without 'right'.
In order to have 'haves' (like $$), you have to have 'have-nots'.
Its the way we're made. We can't help ourselves.
We don't 'ACCEPT' things as they are (as God would most likely have us do.)
In Rudyard Kipling's poem, 'If', there is an excerpt:
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
What do you think he meant by that?
He's talking about Human Perspective!
If you're BALANCED, then you see that there really is no difference between the two.
(Hard to imagine I know, but probably not so much for a man of God.)
But, if your IMBALANCED, (as most of us are), then you remain wrapped-up in one (or the other), bouncing back and forth.
God calls us to be like HIM, not be like each other - HUMAN frailty.
People often ask the question:
If God is so good, and all knowing and all powerful, why does he allow evil in this world? Why do people in Ethiopia starve, etc.
I have the answer to that question:
God works through two things, which are basically still the one thing. Miracles, and opportunity. A miracle is what happens to a victim, an opportunity is what happens to an angel, when God uses a person to fulfill his will.
God doesn't "allow" evil things to happen to people. People do. People starving in Ethiopia have a way out. They have food. Or, more specifically, WE do. It's US, here in the USA and in the UK and AU... in our major industrial countries. WE are their hope, WE are their help. But so many of us choose instead to forget that there are oppressed people in other countries.
We are too busy trying to live our pathetic, materialism-driven lives to realize that others don't even have that opportunity.
It's ultimately up to US, as human beings, to lend our fellow (wo)men a hand. God gave them US.
WE are that answer. It's our responsibility to help each other! That's ultimately what God wants in the first place.
"HEY GOD....WHAT WAS I SENT HERE TO DO?"
"WHAT IS THE HIGHEST POWER..OR MOST POWERFUL SPIRITUAL..OR MAYBE SCIENTIFIC MIRACLE THAT WILL HAPPEN TO EARTH?? TELEPATHY?LEVITATION?LIKE IN THE LAST MIMZI...OR MAYBE SOMETHING FROM THE UNIVERSE??A DISCOVERY ON EARTH THAT WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING?WILL THERE BE?WHAT WILL IT BE?WHEN WILL IT TAKE PLACE?AND IF THERE IS HOW SHOULD WE PREPARE FOR IT??
@MrsKing same thing I said below. We suffer because we are separated from God.
While this IS NOT a Biblical teaching, I have a belief that "Suffering" is the absence of God in your life. So of the most ROCK SOLID---I mean you can hit him with a baseball bat with his faith---and it's ROCK SOLID---and he's someone I know that EXUDES tranquility and "peace". I do volunteer work at my Church. Some of the "Paid Staff" I work with are some of the happiest people I"ve met. I don't think that's a coincidence--their happines is an unwavering trust in teh Lord.
I'm NOT preaching because TRUST ME--I'm FAR FAR from being there, in that level of comfort---but I think that's the key.
"Religion"/"God"/"Jesus"---whatever label you want to call it---at the end of the day--it can best be summed up by "LOVE"---as LOVE so PROFOUND that God sent his son to die for us.
Just to give you an example: ther are over 700 mentions of the word "LOVE" (that's the only variation I used...so you can add "LOVED", "LOVES"< etc. to get a better count...but just for the word "LOVE" over 700 instances.
http://bibleq.com/search?site=biblecc&client=default_frontend&proxystylesheet=custom31&filter=0&num=10&output=xml_no_dtd&btnG=Search&q=love
If you try to look up "Hell" there is less than 100.
http://bibleq.com/search?site=biblecc&client=default_frontend&proxystylesheet=custom31&filter=0&num=10&output=xml_no_dtd&btnG=Search&q=hell
So, I CAN ASSURE YOU--ONE THING I KNOW TO BE OF FACT...the Bible is an instruction manual of "LOVE"----chew on that...
@Somethingesque actually free-will prohibits that. Not trying to be all philosophical...but you have to believe in Fatalism (ie. we don't control our own destiny--God does)--if you want him involved in "fixing" things.
So, if we really are "one" with everything, any way to negotiate for some exceptions?...like, Dick Cheney or Elizabeth Hasselbeck?
are you pure good as they say or are you the combo deal of equal parts good and evil, as I suspect?
From a Catholic's perspective - Jesus lived a good life, and in the end he suffered, but apparently for the sake of the rest of humanity. There's just so much suffering in this world, so many good people walking this earth who never catch a break, and seemingly for no end, for no greater purpose. Other than eternal happiness in their heavenly afterlife, why must they suffer?
The suffering and the sorrow. The hate and the destruction. You could fix it all and yet, you just keep fucking with us. Are you enjoying all this?
What should I hold in a closed hand (no compromise) and what should I hold in an open hand (up for discussion)?
I understand about ecology and the food chain thing but please, dear God, what was the purpose in creating flies and roaches (especially in the billions)?
If you expect us to think and act a certain way and punish us if we don't, then why give us free will?
@JackSway3003 i do understand jacksway3003 the way you feel i can say that i feel the same way in some respect . but the difference is that i do believe in GOD and i steel feel like you :)thank you for the respond ... much love and happy 4th
Who am I? What am I here for? Were do I go from here? And why? Is there really a hereafter, a hell, a heaven, a purgatory?
"But since I can only ask one Question it will be why there are so many questions? Cant we have one simple answer to all these questions?
i am not convinced about his existance, if i were i would ask,
why do the bad things happen to good people? example jane tomlinson, a great woman but got cancer, jesus, did your teachings but got killed.
I don't believe in God but if he were real I'd ask him, "Where the hell were you on 911? Hurricane Katrina? World War 1? 2? Why aren't you in Africa? Why did you create cancer? Couldn't you have used that 'day off' for fixing all the mistakes you made with in the first six days instead of sitting on your lazy ass and watching us squirm? Why should we give you all the credit for the good stuff and then say all the bad stuff was our fault? Why should we beg for mercy to YOU?"
Ask God questions ... She really is listening. He really understands. Answers are always provided according to our ability to listen. Listen carefully.
i wouldn't.
if there is a god, to be in the presence of such omnipotence would answer everything.
I would ask, "More would you like me to do?
And I enjoyed the video. And I will find and read The Shack, thanks all.
@Reckless8610 I haven't read the Shack, but I have heard it is awesome. Maybe I should read it over this long holiday weekend!
@JackSway3003 It sounds a bit like somthing that happened to another gentle person who was thought to be strange, some famous guy, oh yeah i remember. Jesus! He was beated and crucified and as michael loved everyone despite being mocked and tormented, so did jesus supposably. The media crucified MJ for the whole world to see. And now his death is on their hands. That's just me though.
Who do you like better, Bush or Bono? Trying to figure out which team you're playing for.
Since God is within all of us, I would say we can ask away to ourselves. The most important thing after we ask is to listen and allow the answer to come to us.
Shouldn't the discussion be "If you could have one question answered by God, what would it be?" I ask God plenty of questions everyday and most of them go unanswered but if I could just have one answered...I don't know what I would ask.
As I sit here pondering my question, I can't help but think I have no questions. God is mysterious and beautiful and awesome. Mostly, beyond my humanly comprehension. God is always revealing more and more to me. The older I get, the more I understand. God is speaking to me every day through all of you. God is pure love. I would just want a hug. Wouldn't that be the most amazing hug you ever received? I mean really imagine that. God giving you a hug.............
Will we do our part to fulfill Your promise of "Heaven on Earth" - someday?
Why would you let little kids get serious illnesses like cancer and aids? Is that kind of suffering really needed?
Oh Boy ! You do exist ! Do I really have to go to hell for my lack of faith?
For me it's more of a petition...can YOU let everyone know that YOU love them, so that they understand?
What's the magic "lose weight" formula? Surely something better than diet and exercise...
@tsiona I know where you are coming from bringing up Michael. You want to know why he had to die before the masses caught on to his genuine spirit and overall compassion for the Human race. His heart was filled with more love than most care to think about, let alone let themselves feel. This frightened people and in their juvenile states they made fun of him as a way to deal with what limited amounts of "knowledge" they would let themselves comprehend. The second he died, everyone with slightly less than half a brain came to grips and realized it wasn't a game anymore. But, as usual with this joke of a species, we came to realize the most important part of the lesson too late. The teacher was dead before the class ended because of the students' desire for mediocrity. Now we're left with half a lesson and sobbing masses. I'd have a few questions about this for God myself if I believed he existed. But in a world where someone like Michael Jackson is ridiculed and mocked to the point of death, there is no God. Say what you will but the case is closed in my book.
I would ask who His/Her favorite comedian is, because we know that God has a great sense of humor/irony: The best tasting foods tend to be the worst for you.
well i think that we can't ask God questions for a reason, ie. most of the responses so far, but i would have to ask, "God, what's with the platypus? Or the geoduck? They're both f***ed up..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoduck
Love the answers, and love the site. Keep your brains a-chuggin' guys!
@tjay Do you have kids? If yes, do you love them and have influence in their lives? The answer is probably, "Of course." But do they always choose what you would have them choose? Probably not. Now multiply that times 6.something billion... There's your answer for that one. I don't think you need to go to God for that one.
I'm in no position to ask God anything. And if you think you are, then you've limited God to be about as big as you are. I need a bigger God than that. I need a God who's so big that, while I can ask him anything, owes me no answers.
@hmiserable well its not about MJ its about us read it again
and yes i would ask about MJ ,,,,,,,, our life is pretty much very self explanatory .much love
I'd ask him what he was high on when he created Perez Hilton.
For real though I would ask him if I will ever be reunited with my dear friends and family members i've lost to tragedy throughout the years. Side note: If there is a god I would thank him for the gift of life and sneak in another question. How can I attain heaven on earth without the assistence of medications, and to please wash away my anxiety and be this happy forever.
If you're such a loving and influential parent, why are we so destructive?
How, in this mess of a world will I know it's you and not the product of a person wanting to control me?
my personal opinion is that soul pancake is going to change the world ...... :) :)
i would ask him did Micheal Jackson die so the world can finely see and learn how not to treat and raise children? did he die so we can finely hear him? and look at his past and cry for him, and be sad ,and sorry , and LEARN ?
Beyond (seemingly petty) life on Earth, whats next? Do we have options after? Are we really given a "report card" or is the Universe one big free-for-all? (I know thats more than one question but they are all related and would require one complex response from "him")
How come when i feel like ive gone so far away i turn around and see you still right there with your arms wide open?

What is my purpose? What is the limit to my full potential, how far can i go as a person in this world so that i wont be afraid to try.
