I'm not sure if there's life after death. I'd like to think so. Perhaps there isn't. The only reason we're here is to console each other and keep each other going when times are rough to prolong our only life, together, through love. Love. Then why are we so selfish in our motives? Most people are only nice, deep in their soul, because they think it'll get them to Heaven. I think that in itself is a "sin"-- a wrong-doing. Why can't we be nice to people for the hell of being nice? Why can't we love everyone because love is what every person deserves? If we really are here for a short 80 some odd years, often less, all of that striving for a Heaven thing and being selfish through doing it seems a little futile... Doesn't it? Anyways, I've strayed from my original point. If there is an afterlife, I think the devine being there will work it out between the two of you. However it would suit you best. I do not feel they would give the same punishment to a prostitute that they did a mass muderer. The same way that I don't feel the average Joe, a generally good person, never did anything spectacularly wrong or right, would get the same eternal reward as someone like say Mother Teresa or Ghandi. It's 1 part what you want, 1 part what you deserve. Do pets stay with you in the afterlife? Always a hard question. I'm going to answer this as if I do not believe in an afterlife. I think everything, including animals, plants, every molecule to exist, has the spirit of some being. The shape or body that they are does not define them. It is just what their spirit has chosen to inhabit. Once you meet the devine creator after every life (assuming that there is no after life-- eternal resting place), they decide with you what you would like to return as. Never remembering a past life, except in that short time with him or her. I don't know if theres an afterlife. I want to believe so, but sometimes I think I like the reincarnation theory of mine a lot better. It all depends on my mood and where I'm at in my life: a good place or a bad place. I can only hope that I'm right somewhere along those lines. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/301314/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/301314/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html KelseyCaileen Sun, 07 Mar 2010 11:15:43 EST @aduesapaereomni ... its hard to say for sure one way or the other. but that seems right to me. but without those other languages, what would we be reduced to? http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/300419/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/300419/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html FaithsIrony Sat, 06 Mar 2010 12:37:17 EST This question has always confused me, and I've never really been able to get a satisfactory answer. Personally, I believe there is something after we die, because I can't grasp the concept of "nothing" in my mind. Nothing technically can't exist...it's against its own definition. But I don't know, I guess "nothing" still is a possibility. Even if it is, it wouldn't be that bad, considering we wouldn't be conscious to realize that we are dead. Many thoughts about the afterlife have run through my head, such as reincarnation, heaven, or even life as a dream. I guess in order to fully try to grasp life after death, we have to ask ourselves what existence is. That's where I hit a road block. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/276505/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/276505/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html ConstantlyRiskingAbsurdity Fri, 19 Feb 2010 02:00:24 EST I have rememberances and deja vu. We are never born and we never die. How can you take an infinite spirit and define it? You can't. If you truly want to do the most you can in the short while you are here, be here now. Questions are good. But questions that are never answered through experience are just wasted energy. You see, everything that ever was or ever will be is in each and every one of us. So, it follows that we just transform from one energetic state to another. And by the way. In that we change in every fleeting second, as we are no longer the person that we were we are not only dying and reborn but we are magick. So we 'die' and are born, forever. At least to someone who has issues with minor chem problems. :) This might be the right answer to life after death (or in this case, moving to another life). Take your soul for example. I believe it doesn't ever die. It just continues and moves to another plane. So if your soul is actually particles or waves that move to another plane, then this sounds pretty right. Then again I'm also a religious person in the fact that I believe God invisioned us and created us. I also believe in heaven and hell. But who's to say this guy isn't partially right? Like your personal heaven isn't being by yourself for the rest of eternity right? So maybe when you die your loved ones show up later in your own heaven/plane of existance. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/247851/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/247851/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html breathing_space17 Wed, 03 Feb 2010 21:10:32 EST While I agree that religion has mostly been wrong, I do believe the Holy Scriptures makes it pretty clear what happens when we die. "For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all,"-Ecc.9:5,6 "The soul that is sinning-it itself will die"-Ezk.18:4 So if we are no longer conscious after we die, and it is actually the "soul" or person/being that dies then when we die we are just dead, nonexistant. But I do have a hope of being resurrected. The laying on of hands has been a spiritual mystery for ages but now science has demonstrated that there is power that flows through us to each other, although it cannot explain what or how this works. Even Darwin believed that there was an origin of the species that was supernatural and could not be explained without the existence of a God (please read Origin of the Species). I don't know that this science explains the existence of the soul. I think that's a bit of a stretch and, as a doctoral candidate, that most from the scientific tradition would agree. The existence of the soul is a belief. You either believe it or you don't. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/246317/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/246317/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html KennyB Tue, 02 Feb 2010 21:23:57 EST Our body is a composed object which will be decomposed and return to dust. Our soul is not composed of physical elements, so it will continue to exist eternally in the spiritual world of God. Its heavenly or hellish condition depends on our thinking and acting in this life. Nobody can give you clearer answers than your own search in those Books. If the ego doesn't exist, as many claim, it's like asking, 'can polka-dot unicorns die?' I think the only thing that can 'die', is perhaps our misguided belief that individuals are separate from 'the rest' of the universe. also, for all those entropy people, it's kind of far-fetched to place all your hopes on the theory that the universe came from nothing and will end up in some kind of dull, lukewarm sludge. the fact that life, ever evolving towards more complexity, exists, proves that many things go AGAINST entropy. And It's as easily said that the universe came from everything! an ultimate, super-vibration of perfection that all gross matter extends from and returns to. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/244048/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/244048/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html Osakawayne Mon, 01 Feb 2010 15:50:42 EST @piastresx Yea I have pondered that before as well after reading Hindu thoughts on energy and God. I'm not a physics expert, but everything in creation contains energy right? When we die our bodies decay but the energy is still there because it cannot be destroyed. It has to be released somehow. Maybe as fertilization to plants or something. I wonder if the soul has energy. If it does then it must go someplace right? But I don't believe faith questions can be answered by science. They are answered by the heart. So therefore. I still wonder is hell is an actual place or hell is the result of bad deeds and feeling guilt, and the only way to reach heaven or nirvana is to cease from bad deeds and to only perform good deeds. Or if heaven is the state of constant mindfullness of the Creator or an actual place we go to when we die. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/244036/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/244036/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html Gayatri Mon, 01 Feb 2010 15:33:45 EST @brooklyn47 "Other universes can be imagined and as such can be." So yeah every one who has died is probably partially alive in something somewhere. yes even cremation put your parts into the air or sea or some biological systems where the carbon and oxygen will be recycled. I personally believe that there is no tangible life after death. Sure the energy or life-force within us may move on, but that is not a continuation of our own life and consciousness, just a transfer of energy. I feel that this idea that we will live on forever as ourselves in some other realm/dimension/paradise/heaven/hell/whatever you want to call it is focused on our own consciousness, something that is inevitably tied in with our own egos. We believe that "we", a person with a firm grasp of their identity, will retain that identity in the afterlife, something I have a hard time believing. In that regard i believe that whatever is in us that does carry on does so completely independent of the persona and ego attached to it in this life. However, there is also the possibility that that ego/persona/consciousness could live on forever in the waning moments of its life. We've all experienced time dilation to some degree. The old adage, "time flies when you're having fun" is a testament to this. And for those who've taken psychedelics or had profound experiences this may have occurred to an even greater degree. Perhaps in our final moments of life our consciousness turns that last millisecond into and infinite amount of time where we enter into a never-ending dream created by our minds that both reflects our beliefs in life and allows us to experience all we had experience previously in an infinite number of combinations and permutations. Just some thoughts. There is so much amazement to be had in a day's time if we only take our heads out of the dailiness of our lives. Weird, huh? We should live in the moment, but if we are too much in the moment, we might miss the rest. I guess this is part of why a moment can seem to last and eternity, and a lifetime can seem like a blip on the screen. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243747/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243747/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html bigfootthechipmunk Mon, 01 Feb 2010 04:16:58 EST i've always been interested in life, death, and everything in between those things and i suppose this is a great article... but seriously, i don't understand a bit of it. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243746/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243746/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html mbollutchu Mon, 01 Feb 2010 04:14:39 EST @Alaeddin my thoughts and experiences exactly! http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243541/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/243541/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html nancypowell Sun, 31 Jan 2010 23:14:57 EST That's really cool. As someone who is already a big sci-fi nerd, it's fun to think that our world exists along others like it, but even more interesting that there's a theory behind this idea that seems to work. The theory is what really works for me. Had any one person told me about this, but failed to mention there's possible evidence of this, my initial reaction would be "Yeah right. Thanks for ripping off Doctor Who." However, since there's a group of people working on this theory and working towards a conclusion, makes it feel like a legit idea. Either that or I've been watching too much tv. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242751/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242751/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html earlgreytwig Sun, 31 Jan 2010 09:55:28 EST Gotta read that article when I'm awake enough to *try* and understand it, I would love to be able to believe it. I've read books on the subject, one in particular that sounds like it might have the same idea, but the arguments are always so far above my head that I can't grasp them. And being a skeptic and a pessimist I have a hard time believing anything that feels comforting, I instinctly feel like the least comforting answer is probably the right one. Anything else requires intelligent design or a highly improbable amount of luck where the cold facts happens to line up with that would be best for us. Then again, considering the improbability of life, I should probably keep thinking about that. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242700/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242700/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html wirehangers Sun, 31 Jan 2010 06:43:53 EST @justinsreality genius. simpsons is more than people think! sometimes at least http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242636/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242636/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html madmanlovesyou Sun, 31 Jan 2010 02:45:51 EST That's amazing! Sometimes, if you think about it, life feels like a dream. I don't know if there's other universe where will see our dead loved ones, but it's a thought we have to consider. Also, it's just my opinion, but I feel as though I shouldn't dwell on universes of possibility. Like the people who patronized Galileo, it's just a concept which gets people nervous, or unable to make a clear thought process on it. I absolutely adore the idea of the "multiverse", me being the avid trekkie that I am. It just feels like a forbidden subject, which I want to explore more, but the human in me which wants to be cautious won't let me believe it 100% unless there's proof. But I truly believe in the idea that there's life after death. That much is certain. After all, life is a miracle in itself, so I would be terribly disappointed if 'this' was all there was to it. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242450/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242450/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html justlandy Sat, 30 Jan 2010 23:23:43 EST @Cockemyofo76 I agree with you. It's like asking a person blind from birth to describe the colour magenta. It's just a word to him. He can conceptualize it, and perhaps even imagine it, but he won't actually know. When I think of consciousness, and what a marvelous think that is, I can't perceive the possibility that this 72+ year existence is all there is. The ability to think, to reason, to make choices and have emotions that are based upon variants other than mere survival is just amazing to me. http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242233/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html http://www.soulpancake.com/post/710/242233/what-is-life-after-death-do-you-believe-it-exists.html wolfshades Sat, 30 Jan 2010 21:22:42 EST
