Are You A Good Neighbor?

I've noticed in many cultures that neighbors are almost like extended family. I think that attitude reflects the saying "love thy neighbor", and helps to strengthen the community. We don't seem to be so keen on that here in the U.S.......Tell us something you've done (and don't be modest) that says I'm wrong, or if you want, relate something one of your neighbors has done to make your day.

Funnny...what a flashback...growing up I remember a neighbor hollering "hooligans" at us kids...now, I love my neighbors but it took me awhile to figure out the crazy things that my mind was telling me. I hope that I'm doing the stuff that @melb2 is referring. I guess if we don't learn how to live with our neighbors [and ourselves] we'll never figure out how to love the rest of the world.

when I was growing up, I knew all my neighbors and their kids. we used to have neighborhood BBQs , block parties, etc. My mother would spend the morning at the neighbors house drinking coffee, or they were at our house, we could play outside in our front yards in the afternoons, or down the street with our friends.
Today, I am aquainted with my neighbors (I know thier names, anyway), but I've never been to their homes, nor they to mine. Times change, and not always for the better

We live on a court and all our neighbors are great. Couple years ago it snowed really bad and all of us ( except the older folks) shoveled the whole court. It's great to have people you can depend on especially if you are going to be away for a few days. I love my neighbors.

Not presently. I have no idea who my neighbors are, rarely see them and honestly I have little interest in them. Where I lived before, I new most of my immediate neighbors but it was almost a different world, different social culture and community; I do miss it terribly.

I think im a good neighbor, i keep pretty quiet and to my self. Good neighbor meaning im friends with them and visit with them, no. I also dont pay much attention to my lawn so they might not like me as a neighbor.

The woman that lives across the street from us is widowed, her husband died almost two years ago. Ever since then we have made sure that she has our phone number in case there's ever an emergency or she needs anything. Also, she has her driveway re-sealed almost every year, and for the week it's being done my mom makes sure she knows its cool that she parks her car in our drive way instead of in the street. & during the winter, her son-in-law plows her driveway for her, and also does ours for us too. She's one of the only neighbors we have a friendly relationship with, the others seem as if they'd rather not be bothered.

I think my neighbors and I get along fine, mainly because we aren't in each others business.

@kdmask ...."Or, we'd end up with cabin fever."....

As in:
"I shot six holes in my freezer
I think I got cabin fever".....fever?
(words are Jimmy Buffett's)

I had a feeling about that vineyard......lol

@kensho1111 when I was a kid it was really like the wonder years..now, although I've lived in many different neighborhoods, they are much the same.
The streets are named that because Casa Larga Vineyard is right on the top of the hill! (another reason we have so much fun :) heh.)
I also really think that here in the North East our long winters force us out to make the best of the good weather we do have...and we grill, swim and generally dance around while we can. Then, on the flip side, our winters are so bad we have to often pull together to get through them. Or, we'd end up with cabin fever.

@kdmask...."street names around here: Chardonnay, Chablis, Reisling, Burgandy"...

I could hazard a guess as to what the city planners were doing the night they named the streets in that area... ;-)

Sounds like you live in a terrific community, Karen. Those of you who live there make it what it is. (Reminds me of "Leave it to Beaver".)
