What is SoulPancake?

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Hi. I’m Rainn Wilson. I’m an actor. I helped create this here Web site, SoulPancake.

What is SoulPancake? Well, it’s more of a mission than a Web site...

We want to make discussions about Spirituality, Creativity, and Philosophy cool again. Were they ever cool? I have no idea. But it seems like a good idea. We want to engage the user to “Chew on Life’s Big Questions”™. (I was kidding about the ™ symbol; you can use that phrase however you want. Even to sell frozen taquitos.) Where do you go on the Interwebs if you want an irreverent, fun, and profound take on God and Art and the Soul and Faith and Beauty? Fox.com? Maybe. But maybe also here at SoulPancake.com.

We provide some rockin’ content (interviews, blogs, challenges, contests, features, and more), but it’s really all about having YOU—the SoulPancake community—bring this site to life. Say what’s on your mind. Be real. Talk about WHY WE’RE HERE. And if I say something that offends you, let me have it.

Just remember: Life is a rich, weird, difficult experience. So join us as we go on the spiritual and artistic journey that is SoulPancake.

Rainn - You are awesome. There is only ONE other website on which I can have these kinds of discussions and while I love it because people are (generally) tolerant, thoughtful, thought provoking, challenging and respectful on that site, it's good, always good to find other sites that also offer these kinds of stimulating discussions. I can't get enough of people's personal stories and perspectives. They are so valuable. Thank you for starting this site. I totally dig it and you are a cool cat.

@soulpancake Love your site!! [I know it's been said a few times.] BUT, it really works. I kinda thought that maybe Rainn thought it was not working but it the questions can be asked [even if it is the umpteenth time] maybe we can start being a bit more tolerant. I've seen where people here are very tolerant [says something about our younger gen], understanding and tactful. When things get a little heated, they are called out but not rudely. [most the times] I'M SO IMPRESSED...this is the first place I come in the morning and the last place at night. I'm working it into my am meditation...so that I can learn some tolerance of viewpoints that I may not understand. I'm sure this is taking on a life of its own...imo...let it!

I think any video that starts with "My heart floats like a flower." and then is followed by the smashing of the guitar, is obviously epic. The fact that a site with this concept such as yours has actually materialized, is quite delightful.

I Great site I look forward to enjoying the discussion here.I think there is a lot of room for fun in our spiritual search so I , recommend No Way,a book by Wayne Liquorman..an irreverent look at life and its spirit

I think spirituality can afford to get down to earth -- to get a little dirty and while i don't think that i will try to sell any taquitos, i do think it useful to marry these two concepts: spirituality and earthiness/reality/physicality. Spirituality has to be something that we can use daily like a fork... but a very nice fork.
Also, there is something to be said for people who have unnecessary double letters at the ends of their names.

I look forward to checking out this site every time I am on the internet. I've posted my thoughts on some of the questions. There are some tough ones.. such as...What one word would you have chiseled into your tombstone? I am still pondering that one. Thanks to Rainn and staff!

Now I've read some comments. Wow! Nightline= great decision making!

After watching the Nightline interview the other night, I got really excited! I was already a member (who does not watch The Office, but loves Office Space), and I've jumped in a bit to test the waters. I was not surprised with the results, as I trusted Rainn right off the bat. Some other sites had members who, for the most part sneered at my thoughts, and even went as far as engaging in evil.

I find that the community is encouraging and edifying. The main thing to remember is that challenging one another in Love will bring about a harmony not yet experienced in other communities.

Thank you Rainn,
Doo

I randomly turned the television on to see Dwight without glasses leading this other dude around the Office. I guess it was Nightline...

In any case, this site is spectacular. Thank-you.
