Illustrated by Philip Blyth
I dont think that people get what they pray for. I used to believe (god/religion not like hardcore) but i was doubtful, then one day i believe that i really asked god for something like a genuine prayer not like your everyday prayer but i thought that god was actually listening and i really got into that prayer and was "talking" to god for a good 20 minutes non-stop but nothing so yeah i dont think that people get what they pray for.
@keeyon2
The truth is, Keeyon is right. Well, almost right. God can help with courage, patience, and love -- but that's about it. To imply that God "creates" those opportunities implies that God has us on puppet strings or is manipulating things so that other opportunities will happen.
So, may I assume you believe in pre-destination? Not sure where you stand, but God can't create opportunities without interfering with our free will. And not sure if you've noticed or not, but God doesn't mess with our free will. Just ask the 12 muslims who flew planes into the WTC on 9/11.
@unityindiversity
It's one thing to say that God "hears" us. But is "maybe" really an answer? A polite person would at least say "yes" or "no." So many of God's answers are "maybe within the next 10-400 years." What kind of an answer is that?
If I ask God to heal my 3 year old daughter from a rape, and she stays in a coma, then what would you say God's answer is? Should I thank God for not healing her because "yikes, I'd hate for all my prayers to be answered?"
You go on to say that you don't know why God wouldn't help a sick child. And that's the point. I'm okay with him not giving me the pay raise, but when your prayer is for an innocent child, and his answer is "maybe, within the next 90 years," what are we suppose to think?
@Moodles
Again, it's not really an answer when it's "maybe." So, are you implying that God "made" your daughter stillborn? You actually think God did that "for a reason?" You think God would kill your child and give your parents cancer, in order to teach YOU a lesson? What if I wounded my son in order to teach my wife a lesson?
yes, but it my not always come in the form your expected it to.
its like the movie evan almighty. "Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?"
I believe that God gives us what we need to grow and develop to be the best person that we can be. Only He knows what is best for us. Someone once said to me.....God answers our prayers in 4 ways:
1. Yes
2. No
3. Maybe
4. Are you kidding!!!
So maybe we should pray for our will to be in line with God's Will? Maybe we should pray to accept the will of God with radiant acquiesence rather than with dull resignation? Maybe we should not be attached to what it is we want?
At the end of the day God wants us to be happy...........He knows how to get us there........the question is........are we willing to let Him get us there the hard way or the easy way? The most direct route or the route with a million detours?
@Xenagal01 I believe people can pray for anything as well. some people take it too seriously and some not enough. I feel bad that i dont pray all the time but i do pray or look for help when i need it .. but isnt that bad too our only praying or looking for help when ur in a time of need.? I dont know these questions are only to myself. does praying help for you?
